Applied Materials gives $5M gift of equipment, service to UC Berkeley - Silicon Valley / San Jose Business Journal:

Santa Clara-based Applied (NASDAQ:AMAT) said the gift went to the school’es Nanofabrication Laboratory in the Center for Information Technology Research in the Interesrof Society. Applied Materials’ gift consists of processing equipment and aservic contract, and complement Applied Materials equipment that was donate to the university in 2002. “Thesr advanced systems will be used by our engineering studentsx to accelerate groundbreaking research in semiconductor and relate d nanofabrication technology that may fuel an arrayu ofnew discoveries,” said Shankatr Sastry, dean of the College of “We thank Applied Materialz for its continued support as theser tools will be valuable to the University’a programs.
” CITRIS will foster work on novel semiconductor devices and their integration with nanowires/nanotubes, microelectomechanical optoelectronics, and bioelectronics. The systems donated by Applied will be used to deposiy two of the most critical thin films that are partof next-generationh integrated circuits: epitaxy and gate dielectrics.
