The two companies plan to re-launchh a yet-to-be re-named Kids Network channel in late 2010. The new networkm will feature programming and online content builtarounfd Hasbro’s games and toys, including Romper Room, Triviapl Pursuit, Scrabble and Cranium. Programmingy will include cartoons, game shows and It will also include contentfrom Discovery’s librarhy of children’s education programming. The two also plan to take advantagw of merchandising opportunities the new shows The deal was first announcerdin April. “This joint ventured reinforces Discovery’s strategy to develop strongb brands, maximize the potential of our extensivde distribution inthe U.S.
, and work with the highest-qualityg content partners to creatwe long-term value, Discovery Communications chief executive Davidf Zaslav said when the partnershipp was first announced. Under terms of the deal, both Hasbrp (NYSE: HAS) and Silvef Spring-based Discovery (NASDAQ: DISCA) will have equak representation on thejoingt venture’s board of directors. Discovery will handled advertising salesand distribution. Hasbro will providse studio-produced programming. The two plan to star t development of new showx basedon Tonka, G.I. Joe, Transformer and My Little Pony within the next few Discovery launched the Discovery Kids channelin 1996.
